I thought I had already eaten the best enchiladas in town, until a good friend of mine took me to Barela's coffee shop to eat. The food was absolutely out of this world and the service was great !
Found this place while exploring ABQ for the first time. The chicharrones were on point, just like my mom used to make. The menudo had a clean taste, and tripe was perfectly cooked, though could have been a little spicier. The little pieces of meat throughout added a nice savoriness. Their chile relleno was also delicious with meat pieces inside as well. The huevos rancheros deluxe was also flavorful. It was pretty busy so service was a little spotty but overall good experience!
This place is a mainstay in Albuquerque for a reason. The menu isn't massive but that is a good thing because you know whatever you order will be great. If you're looking for some authentic NM food then Barelas is a strong pick.
The food is amazing, chile is fresh and flavorful. Fresh homemade tortillas, I recommend a side of chicharrones to accompany your meal.
I ordered typical breakfast eggs bacon and green chili. The food was great! They offered tortillas. They have a traditional NM menu. The servers were very friendly. I was impressed with the quick turn around. The food was hot as expected. I will definitely return. This place is a family business and it shows. Well worth the visit. They also have a shop with NM gifts.
Wow! I was blown away by our waitress Donna, she was very attentive, friendly and sufficient, I ordered the combination plate (Got it Christmas style). It was one of the best meals that I’ve ever had! Everyone should try this place at least once. Trust me you won’t be disappointed! FIVE STARS!
First time trying the place. It' was good. It was also busy and I get it. The food was delicious we had to send our huevos Rancheros back, apparently if you want it with tortillas you have to get the deluxe. The red chili was good not too hot or spicy. It was nice to see that they had chicharones on the menu. Some of the pork was dry but for the most part delicious. They also have homemade tortillas which is also very nice. I do recommend them if you want a good home cooked meal.
